In the beginning, he never thought he’d be a dog person. Pets seemed messy, loud, and too much work. But a cold winter day would change his mind.
Snow fell steadily, covering the streets in silence. He hurried home, his coat tight against the wind. In a snow-covered alley, he saw a small, unmoving shape against a trash bin.
At first, he wanted to ignore it. But something inside him made him turn back. He saw a tiny, shivering puppy, half-buried in snow.
He thought about walking away. He wasn’t a dog person. But this was about life or death.
Without hesitation, he picked up the fragile pup. It was colder than he thought, barely moving. He rushed home, the snow crunching under his feet.
Once inside, he wrapped the puppy in towels and sat by the heater. Hours passed, and the puppy’s breathing steadied. Its tiny paws twitched.
He fed it small bits of food, watched it drink water, and saw life return to its eyes. Over the next few days, he found himself caring deeply for the puppy.
Yet, he knew he couldn’t keep the dog. His life wasn’t suited for it. But he wanted the puppy to thrive.
He contacted a local family known for their love of dogs. They had a playful golden retriever who had lost its companion. The moment the puppy met its new friend, it was clear where it belonged.
Watching the two dogs play, he felt joy and peace. Saving the puppy had changed him. It had softened his heart.
