Heroic Dog saves family in New Mexico!
Pancho, a rescue dog from northern New Mexico, has captured global attention after heroically protecting his family from an armed intruder. Eight years after being adopted from Española Humane, Pancho risked his life when a 16-year-old trespasser, armed with a knife, entered his family’s property. The brave dog fought back, enduring repeated kicks and severe stab wounds to his neck, including a severed jugular vein. Despite his injuries, Pancho’s courage forced the intruder to flee.
His family rushed him to multiple emergency vets without success before finally reaching Española Humane, where he had originally been rescued. During surgery, Pancho’s heart stopped, but a vet technician performed chest compressions, and he was successfully revived. After a difficult battle, Pancho stabilized and reunited with his grateful family.
His story went viral when Española Humane shared it on social media. The popular Instagram account WeRateDogs gave Pancho an honorary 15/10 rating, leading to an outpouring of love and support. Omaha Steaks even offered to send a cooler of ribeye steaks to fulfill his owner’s promise of rewarding him for his bravery.
As Pancho continues to recover, his story has touched hearts worldwide, highlighting the unconditional love and loyalty of dogs. Española Humane plans to throw him a celebratory barbecue once his steaks arrive. Meanwhile, the teenage intruder faces trespassing and animal cruelty charges. Pancho’s heroism serves as a powerful reminder of the deep bond between dogs and their owners.
